Although we are generally referred to as "military brats" or "overseas brats", sociologists know us as "third culture kids", or TCKs. The term was first used by the late Prof. Ruth Unseem of Michigan State University in a 1973 article entitled "Third Cultural Factors in Education Change" in The Influence of Cultural Factors in School Learning, edited by Cole S. Brembeck et al. Unfortunately, it seems that since her death her web site is being "reorganized", and links to her articles are not working; however, there several used copies of The Influence of Cultural Factors in School Learning on Amazon.Com.
